San Francisco. Call her crazy,
but call her new storefront cool. Lou Ann Bauer, A.S.I.D., award winning
San Francisco kitchen and bath designer has opened a hot new cabinet hardware
showroom in the Upper Market area of San Francisco.
"Bauerware is home to thousands of whimsical cabinet knobs and pulls. The showroom features over 180 artisans, manufacturers and crafts-people. From traditional to contemporary and from quirky to one of a kind, Bauer's wares range in form and style, from $3 to $1,500. "I've always wanted to own a hardware store", says Bauer. "Of course, it couldn't be ordinary," she explains. "That's just me! It's always different." An interior designer, contractor and artist, Bauer offers a unique collection of designer hardware lines, as well as Bauer's own creations crafted from handmade metals, wood, plastics and recycled materials. Bauerware is open to the public and to the trade with something for everyone behind the storefront's colorful mango and papaya facade. A signature "gator" logo is incorporated into the entry threshold slate and a full sized carved gator hanging above the door welcomes each visitor. The interior is trademark Bauer - a blending of contemporary and traditional: bold chartreuse walls, custom apple-ply maple cabinets and galvanized countertops. Galvanized bins neatly line the walls displaying the merchandise up to the 12-foot ceiling complete with library ladder for accessibility by the staff. Sales staff sport Bauerware's chartreuse and tomato bowling shirts, sure to become a collector's item. Bauerware features monthly exhibitions of local artisans and cabinet makers' work showcasing unique knobs which can be viewed on display in the two bay windows.
